Text Box: No matter what your educational goal is, the first thing you need to do is come in to the center enroll and attend orientation. Beginning in July, we will have certain days and times you may do this.
Next, you will take a Locator Test. This test is designed to give you and your instructors a very general idea of your skills in Reading, Language and Math. This is not a pass or fail test –it is just for information-yours and ours! This test has about 40 questions and takes about 40 minutes to complete.
The next step is to fine tune the information-gathering. You will take a TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). The TABE is given on different levels depending on how you do on the locator test. Say that a student does not do as well as he would have liked on the math portion of the locator test-the TABE will tell him and us what specific math areas need more study. The TABE test will take most students about 2 hours to complete.
If you want to earn your GED, step 3 for you is to take the OPT (Official Practice Test). You must take this test to be eligible to take the Official GED Test. You may be able to work on portions of your OPT while you study to strengthen weaker areas.
After you have passed the OPT, you must register online to take the Official GED Test. We will step you through this process.
Certain age restrictions apply to taking the Official GED test. Generally, you must be 16 years of age and have been out of school for at least 90 days. You should have a written withdrawal from school, including home or private school.
If you are brushing up to go to college or vocational school or have another educational goal besides earning your GED, this is where your service becomes individualized. We will help you with your educational goal.
